Sunway University (originally Sunway College) was formed with the belief and understanding that higher education is vital to the progress of the Nation. The institution received an auspicious start in 1987 when it was officially opened by the late Sultan of Selangor. Within a short span of time, its student numbers outgrew the original premises, leading to the development of a new, purpose-built campus, complete with a comprehensive range of modern academic and residential facilities. Prior to becoming Sunway University, the institution was upgraded to University College status by the Minister of Higher Education on 12 Aug 2004. On 31 Jan 2011, our Founder, Chairman and Chancellor, Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah received the certificate from YB Dato' Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, upgrading us to be a full-fledged University.
